HISTORY

The Robinson family started Vista Villa Farms in 1967.

Humble beginnings

Growing up on a mixed large animal farm in Perth County, Bob Robinson started raising a few pigs for market, profiting to fund his education at the University of Guelph.

Bob sold feed for Shur-Gain after graduating university and soon after married his wife Rose in 1960. The couple dreamt of owning a farm and raising pigs. The couple bought neighbouring land to Rose’s home farm outside of Seaforth. This land has always been, and continues to be, Vista Villa’s home farm.

Bob and Rose had a small herd and managed all chores while raising a family of five.

Innovation through legacy and a love for pigs, with family remaining the heart of it all

Bob was a visionary and with his wife and kids firmly behind him, they quickly expanded the farm and started to specialize in genetics, selling breeding stock. A pioneer in the pig stock breeding industry, Bob developed a balanced breeding philosophy to ensure superior and consistent genetic gains.

Every member of the Robinson household played an integral role in the business. For a few years, the kids were encouraged to get jobs elsewhere and learn true lessons in working for someone else. But after pursuing post-secondary education, the three Robinson boys — Scott, Brent and Jeff — decided to take on roles with the farm.

As the family grew, so did the business. Vista Villa grew the herd from 200 sows to 3500 in 2022.

In June 2022, the 55th year in business, Vista Villa was split into two separate businesses to accommodate our growing families and to facilitate business opportunities for the 3rd generation of Robinson family. Brent and Susan took over Vista Villa Genetics, running the breeding stock side of the business, and Jeff and Erin took over Vista Villa Farms, becoming a commercial herd with a few small breeding stock customers, based from the original home farm.”

Today, the Robinson family of Vista Villa Farms, include Jeff, Erin, and daughters Grace, Emma and Ava, supported by a team of 12 dedicated, hard working and extremely knowledgeable staff who work in breeding, farrowing, genetics and the on-farm artificial insemination (AI) lab, along with 3 contract growers in the farrow to finish operation, who include brother Scott and nephew David.

Building Relationships

Each pig’s growth and health is managed by a member of our family ownership team. We rise each day and take pride in a job well done. Raising pigs is our way of life.

Our progressive genetics partner Alliance Genetics Canada also has the same family focus and shares our core values.

Deal directly with our team. At Visa Villa, we build strong, personal relationships with customers, partners and our communities.

Youth in Huron County are learning the ins and outs of the agriculture industry while getting their boots dirty in the Vista Villa barns.
